NOVA Community Days 2021
1/28/2021Yesterday we enjoyed another NOVA Community day with our upper Secondary school students. The cold weather and snow didn’t keep our students away from spending a couple of hours on the ice skating ring at the Boris Trajkovski sports centre.
Although we made sure to keep physically distant, socially, we enjoyed each other’s company and showcasing some cool movements on the ice. Who knew that ice skating is such a thing for a country with over 300 sunny days.
We are thankful to our students that supported this activity and looking forward on enjoying each other’s company in our next school community day.
Stay safe everyone,
Your lovely chaperone teachers

NOVA Musical Souls 2020
1/11/2021Our creative students in 7th grade worked on a project called "My World Music Song" which celebrated music from around the world by singing their own lyrics in a language they haven't spoken before (translated and tutored by a peer they were paired with, who speaks that language). They used already existing world music songs, as their instrumental background. Filipa Gelevska and Blagica Dojchinovska are singing their lyrics translated and helped by their partners Iljas Oberhuber and Tomislav Protik. One of the projects that 8th graders had this year was "Recreate a classical music piece”, from the unit on the evolution of music, and their final task was to recreate any classical music theme of their choice, by adding and singing their lyrics in a video performance. Idil Su Arslan recreated "The Swan" by Camille Saint Saëns (performed on a cello by Yo Yo Ma), and she called it "Rainy Days in NY”.

Collaboration with Red Cross called Wishlist
12/23/2020As a tradition, NOVA International Schools cooperates with the Red Cross, now a second year in a row. The holiday season is around the corner and with that the season of solidarity. Unfortunately, many children are left without presents and do not get to experience the same holiday comfort. As a way to give back to the community, we’ve teamed up with the Red Cross to donate gifts and support less fortunate children all across the country from their own wishlist. The leader of this project was Galena Jovanoska. This year we’ve gathered 65 presents based on the wishes of the children, with the support of our faculty&staff and our kind students, which was 1/3 of the wishlist.

Annual celebration of people with disabilities - Not all Disabilities are Visible
12/3/2020On December 3 this year, during the annual celebration of people with disabilities, the 2020 theme ‘Not all Disabilities are Visible’ also focuses on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent.
Did you know?
-Of the one billion population of persons with disabilities, 80% live in developing countries.
-An estimated 46% of older people aged 60 years and over are people with disabilities.
-One in every five women is likely to experience disability in her life, while one in every ten children is a child with a disability.
-Persons with disabilities in the world are among the hardest hit by COVID-19.
Even under normal circumstances, persons with disabilities are less likely to access health care, education, employment and to participate in the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, isolation, disconnect, disrupted routines and diminished services have greatly impacted the lives and mental well-being of people with disabilities right around the world. Spreading awareness of invisible disabilities, as well as these potentially detrimental— and not always immediately apparent— impacts on mental health is crucial as the world continues to fight against the virus.

Food Drive @ Nova
11/23/2020Dear Nova Community,
In the spirit of Thanksgiving Day, the Nova PTA is organizing a Food Drive to collect food for the less fortunate, beginning Monday, November 23rd through Friday December 4th. We are partnering with#Retweet-a-meal, a citizen’s initiative that is doing amazing work meeting the nutritional needs of people in our community who do not have the means to do so themselves. In previous years, you may remember #Retweet-a-meal cooking and delivering hot meals to needy families, but due to COVID-19, this year’s initiative will be focused on collecting non-perishable food items that can be delivered to the families.
Beginning Monday, November 23rd, each morning PTA representatives will be inside the EMS front entrance to accept donations of non-perishable food products (pasta, beans, oil, flour, sugar, canned food, shelf milk, etc.) that you think can be utilized by any family in need. If your children are not attending school in person, you can still support this initiative by making an online donation through the following link. All donations will be used by the Nova PTA to purchase additional food items to be delivered to families in need.
If your company would like to make a larger food donation, please contact Ms. Arta Kjato at arta.kjato@nova.edu.mk.

Students supported by "Boris Trajkovski" scholarship
11/9/2020One of NOVA’s goals is to drive learners into society armed with the passion and the ability to learn how to affect positive change. Having a student such as Luka Pavikjevikj proves that. He, as a ‘’Boris Trajkovski’’ Scholarship recipient, has been involved in Nova Times as editor-in-chief, and the school’s Debate Club. Luka believes that being actively engaged in the community can contribute to everlasting improvements, because it is a civic duty and a pleasure, as well. He has inspired his fellow students to share inspiring stories about women’s empowerment and has been an advocate for students' mental health through UNICEF MK.
Luka hopes to be a professor one day, where he can use his platform to inspire others, spark intellectual debates and express his opinions. This job fits nicely with the skills he is currently developing - research, writing, and public speaking.

NOVA PTA initiative "Donate a Device"
11/4/2020During the last month, the whole Nova community was able to come together for a common cause and gather 25 devices that will provide a window to the world and the ability for children to continue their education. Half of the equipment was purchased by the school, and the rest were used yet functional devices, donated by NOVA families.
In partnership with Project Happiness Skopje, NOVA's PTA launched the initiative "Donate a Device" to support children at social risk around N. Macedonia who are in need of devices for their online education. On Monday, the devices were shared with Project Happiness representatives, for further distribution directly to the children at social risk.
NOVA and the PTA consider the lack of continued education for at-risk children a major concern, and therefore dedicated their efforts specifically to this cause, in order to ensure that everyone has a right to an education, even under difficult circumstances.
