NOVA Green Initiative

Three of #NOVA students Vasilisa Shashkova, Eva Ristikj and Anja Pavlova became young climate change ambassadors. They aim to raise awareness on climate change through a COP26 Simulation with Young Climate Ambassadors that will be held on 20th of February.

Simulation of the UN Conference of Parties  (COP26)

The first simulation of COP26 in the country and beyond will involve 20 young ambassadors for climate change who were previously trained through the online course on Climate Diplomacy.

COP26 this year  will be held in November, Glasgow, United Kingdom, while the simulation will be online on 20/2/2021 and will involve relevant decision makers.

The COP26 simulation is realized within the project Young Ambassadors for Climate Change supported by the British Embassy in Skopje. https://www.bidizelen.org/en/young-climate-ambassadors-higher-ambition/

Here is the interview made by Eva and Anja.

1. WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AS A YOUNG CLIMATE AMBASSADOR IN GOGREEN?

EVA: My immediate role as a young climate ambassador is to spread awareness on issues of climate change, providing resources and education for people in my community to voice their opinions and engage in these issues as well. Rallying others to this important cause is crucial, as government action is achievable only if more people voice their concerns. I would also thank the British Embassy for supporting young people and the project Young Climate Ambassadors.

ANJA: Definitely what Eva said. As a young climate ambassador in Go Green, my role is to educate and spread awareness on the issues that we are all facing due to climate change. My purpose and my goals with joining this program are to be a part of the solution and encourage others to join. Motivating people to all work together on this because together we are stronger. By collectively working on the surroundings we will help create a sustainable green environment for all.

2. WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE? WOULD YOU CONSIDER IT A CRISIS OR AN EMERGENCY? TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR PLANS IN DETAIL.

EVA: Climate change is an ongoing crisis which needs immediate, yet continuous addressing. The government needs to have goals for the future and work towards eliminating local issues such as air and soil pollution. My agenda is to educate and engage my peers so they are also informed on the severity of these issues, as well as to demand government action.

ANJA: When visualizing the ideal future, I see a greener world with a plan to sustain it. This is a project that must be a paramount priority for us all. Climate change is a global emergency and it will not stop until we engage. I am currently working on projects with GoGreen and my peers from GoGreen. I am also further educating myself on the topic and preparing for the Simulation of the UN Climate Change Conference. This Conference will take place on February 20th at 11am. With this I want to further involve myself and encourage others to do so as well.

3. HOW CAN OTHER NOVA STUDENTS JOIN YOU IN THIS CAUSE?

EVA: NOVA students can join the Simulation of COP26, which will take place on February 20th at 11am, and get informed about the biggest climate event so far organized in the UK, and how the world discusses and deals with climate change. I would also encourage NOVA students to contact me personally if they want to contribute to such causes in the community.

ANJA: I agree with Eva, the first thing they can do is watch the live simulation on Go Green’s FB profile. We have to understand that as young people, we are going to suffer from the consequences of climate change. Therefore, we must act as soon as possible. Young people must be involved in decision-making processes regarding climate change. Nova is a community, and I hope that the rest of my fellow classmates will join me, and help the community create a better environment and surrounding.
