Award-winning YA author Mr. Dominic Carrillo visits Nova

On May 2rd & 3th, NOVA EMS Libraries had the honor to bring award-winning YA author Mr. Dominic Carrillo in the classrooms. During his two-day visit, Mr. Carrillo met our Grade 6 to 9 students. He modeled writing workshops, answered students’ questions about his books and shared his expertise as an author and a teacher. Moreover, our students had the chance to be the first readers of Nia and the Dealer, our guest’s newest book that won't be on Amazon until June. It was wonderful to see students so excited and engaged.

In Grade 7 and Grade 8 Life Skills sessions, students were grouped and rotated among different stations sharing their ideas about the key themes addressed in Mr. Carrillo’s books such as rumors, popularity, first love, stereotypes, gender double-standards and racism. During these sessions, Mr. Carrillo had the chance to observe, listen to and interact with our youngsters.
