Course Load and Requirements for Obtaining a High School Diploma

NOVA students must meet the following list of academic requirements to be awarded a high school diploma, as approved by the school board and verified by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges).

4-Year Distribution of Grades

LANGUAGE ARTS (4 credits)

4 credits in English required (a maximum of 2 transfer credits from the ELD program are allowed)

Additional 4 credits of native language (Macedonian/Albanian) are required for Macedonian citizens

FOREIGN LANGUAGES (2 credits)

A minimum study of one modern foreign language over two years is required

MATHEMATICS (4 credits)

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (1 credit)

NATURAL SCIENCES (3 credits)

Grade 9 and 10 Natural Science Foundation Program required

SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES (3 credits)

Grade 9 and 10 Social Science Foundation Program required

FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS (2 credits)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (2 credits)

(A maximum of 2 transfer credits from competitive school sports are allowed)

ELECTIVES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS (3 credits)

Interdisciplinary Writing workshop for grade 9 and 10 required

Foundations in Research Course (FIRC) required
