School Day

The school day begins promptly at 08:00 and ends at 15:00 from Monday to Friday, with an early release time of 14:00 each Friday. Students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to start by 08:00 and may arrive from 07:45 onward. It is essential that parents respect this schedule so their child does not miss an important part of the school day. Students receive instruction in Reading/LA and Math daily and Science three times per week.
Art and Music are taught throughout the school year with either one or two classes per week on rotation, Dance Physical Education and Macedonian Language classes take place twice a week throughout the school year. One class a week is dedicated to Computer Education, however integration with core classes is encouraged throughout the year.
Students have a short breakfast snack from 09:25 until 09:40. Lunch and recess is scheduled from 11:50 until 12:50. Meals can either be brought from home or purchased from the cafeteria on a semester basis. Elementary students are not permitted to buy lunch in the ES cafeteria however they may buy a drink to accompany their packed lunch or hot meal. We encourage healthy eating, so we ask that food brought from home is also nutritious and doesn’t include candy, sodas and unhealthy snacks. Students are not allowed to leave the building during school hours.
Parents/guardians are expected to pick up their child(ren) promptly at 15:00 unless they are in a supervised extracurricular activity after school or enrolled in our after-school daycare program.
Students can choose from a variety of semester long activities that last until 16:00. If a parent is late beyond 3:15, the child will be taken to the after school daycare room and charged an additional fee, after repeated occurrences.
If a child is absent, please call the administration office, ext. 201. Every day is an important day of learning, so students are expected to be at school unless they are ill or there is a family emergency. If a student is absent for reasons other than illness, parents are asked to fill out a Planned Absence form prior to any absences. These are available from homeroom teachers.
Students are expected to make up missed assignments, and teachers can prepare work when given 48 hours notice. However, because our lessons are interactive with many hands-on activities, make up work is not as effective as being in class.
