Theatre Class Performance Exam

10/29/2014

A Performance Exam took place on October  27th, in the High School Drama room. Students attending Theatre class presented their solo and group performances.  Performances ranged from musical acts to silent etudes, from comedies to dramatic monologues, which students wrote themselves. Several students attending the Filmmaking class were also present, in order to make their casting decisions for their up-coming film projects. The audience was filled with teachers following the performances, as well as, students providing support to their classmates. It was an interesting learning experience for the Theatre students in terms of dealing with stage fright and performing in front of an audience. Applauses filled the room, after each performance, and could even be heard in the hallways. Poetry Reading in the Library

10/22/2014

Once, Robert Frost said: “Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found its words. ”Eight students turned international author’s thoughts into words in the Library yesterday at our First Poetry Reading of the year. As part of the “October-Month of Foreign Languages” Library Program, the students read poems by international authors both in their original language and English. We all enjoyed the poetry reading as we rarely get an opportunity to hear that many languages all at one place. The librarian would like to thank the students who participated and the Teen Advisory Board members for taking an active role in the organization of this event and would also like to encourage other students to sign up for other Library events as they are not only educational, but fun as well. HS Principal Welcome Letter

8/22/2014

Dear parent, We are excited to welcome you to the new school year. For us teachers it has already begun. The summer has been exceptionally busy, hosting a world-class event (video here: http://www.globalconnections.org/news_and_initiatives/GCSeminarXVI_thoughts.aspx), but also busy with new enrolments. Our community is thriving, and it is shouldering the additional responsibilities well. I believe we are prepared for our most successful year yet. We look forward to welcoming our new high school families next Wednesday August 27 at 11am to the family orientation. If weather permits, we’ll go outside the building for a bit of socializing, to be joined by a number of our faculty and staff. There, I hope to also invite you to attend the first of many morning coffee hours, and to become a member of our parent-teacher association. I believe the best way to help your student is to join our efforts in helping all of our students.I have a few exciting changes to introduce to you here, all happening this year. We will be discussing them in greater detail at several upcoming events as well: Our campus will receive enhanced security, an additional security guard near the main parking lot. The school will adopt a new open campus policy, making it a privilege, one that our freshmen will need to earn, and that our sophomores, juniors and seniors will need to maintain.    In the spring, we are finally saying farewell to school excursions, in favor of a more robust learning experience called ‘a week without walls’. Your student will collaborate with peers in groups of 20, chaperoned by 2 of our faculty and staff. The groups will embark on a 3-5 day projects outside the confines of our school. This project-based learning will involve some travel, ranging from the nearby city center, to as far as another country.    This year, generously supported by the US Department of State, and partnering with College Board, we are able to bring a few major events at Nova. First is an October visit by the admissions director of an Ivy League school, the University of Pennsylvania; she will offer insight and training to our college counselors and teachers, but also offer an evening session for those families who are interested in finding out more about US college admissions. During our spring professional development, College Board will invite seasoned veterans to conduct vertical teams workshops for our grade 6-12 pre-AP programs, in Math, Science and English.  Finally, in addition to our rich program of events and extra-curricular activities, we would like to offer our students the opportunity to join cross-country coed, and varsity tennis. You can register your intent to join with our AC/AD, who will give more details, pending a sufficient number of interested families. We are eagerly anticipating the new school year, and the opportunity to meet you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can assist you - those of you making Skopje and Macedonia your new home, those making Nova your new community, or those returning, with whom we share an eventful history. Most respectfully,  Viktor Novakovski High School Principal NOVA International Schools
