Johnny Appleseed Day

Today the kindergartners of Ms. Stewart's class and their Reading Buddies celebrated folk hero, Johnny Appleseed Day with a lot of activities. First they watched an online reading of a mini biography of the pioneer apple farmer who established orchards throughout the American Midwest and then were engaged in many centers. The centers helped to learn about apples which is a staple Macedonian crop, but additionally reinforced such concepts as counting, sequencing, motor skills, analyzing, drawing visual descriptions, while in collaborating settings. In addition to spending time being role models for their buddies, the 5th graders were able to link the topic to movement (5 Themes of Geography) of the apple's start in Central Asia to all parts of the world. Both grades however were able to enjoy many forms of the apple....which can be half the fun!
